    On this page, you will find the most frequently asked questions and answers about Grand Hotel Karel V. If your question is not listed here or you haven't found the answer you were looking for, please contact our reception at 030 233 7555  or the Reservations department.     • ROOMS & RESERVATIONS

    • Can I change my reservation?

      It is possible to change your booking within the terms and conditions. You can contact us at reservations@karelv.nl or use the booking module (at the bottom you can choose whether to change or cancel the booking).

    • Is it possible to add an extra (baby) bed?

      It is possible to book an extra bed for the room before arrival. You can choose between a standard bed or a cot. We charge a supplement for extra beds in the rooms. For adult beds, we charge a supplement of EUR 65 per night and for a cot for children up to 2 years old, this supplement is EUR 25 per night.

      Please note: Our rooms do not have extra beds as standard, these are added by us. Adding adult beds is possible in the Empire Executive rooms and the Suites. In the Comfort rooms with bath, Luxury rooms (not split level) and all Empire rooms it is possible to place a baby cot.

    • Can I specify a preference for a room?

      If you have a preference for e.g. a quiet room, garden view, cathedral tower view, high/low floor or a room with balcony, please contact our reservations department at reservations@karelv.nl.

      We can make a note in your reservation of your preference. We will do our best to accommodate your request, however, we cannot guarantee this due to availability.

    • I am visiting with my family, can we stay in one room with the whole family?

      The family suite offers the possibility of staying together as a family, it can accommodate up to 4 people. We also have rooms with a connecting door available, allowing you to link the rooms together. Our hotel is child-friendly, we offer babysitting services and can place cots in the room for you. We are happy to think along with you about the possibilities.

    • Is breakfast included in my overnight stay?

      The presence of breakfast depends on the booked rate, you can always find this information on the booking confirmation. Should there be any ambiguity, our Reservations department is available to help and answer your questions.

      Is it not included in your reservation and you still want breakfast? No problem! Breakfast is €35 per adult and €22,50 per child aged 4 to 12, free for children under 4.

    • Can I bring my pet(s)?

      Dogs are welcome in ground-floor rooms. However, on Split Level rooms, Empire Double rooms and Cozy Wooden rooms, dogs are not allowed. The charge for dogs is €50 per dog per night.

      Due to the possible triggering of allergies, cats/kittens are unfortunately not allowed in Grand Hotel Karel V.

    • PAYMENTS

    • Can I order a voucher for the hotel/restaurant?

      At our reception, you can purchase gift cards where you can choose the amount you want. The recipient can then choose what to spend it on.

    • Which payment methods are available?

      You can pay at our hotel with your debit card, cash, Amex, MasterCard or Visa Card.

    • Will my credit card be charged in advance?

      When booking the APR fare or any other package that cannot be cancelled, the credit card will be charged in advance. In other cases, the credit card will not be charged. If it is, this will be clearly stated on the booking confirmation. If you have any doubts or questions about this, please contact the Reservations Department for clarification.

    • What does council tax mean and why do I have to pay it?

      The tourist tax is a compulsory levy required of all overnight guests, we are obliged to remit it to the municipality and contributes to maintenance costs of the city of Utrecht.

    • LOCATION

    • What is the hotel's location?

      Grand Hotel Karel V is located in the bustling heart of Utrecht, at the foot of the Dom tower, but offers a peaceful environment through its beautiful, green garden. A stunning location just a 5-minute walk from Central Station. Moreover, the hotel has its own parking spaces, which is unique in the old city centre.

    • Is there a taxi service available?

      Yes, we have a taxi service available for you. We are happy to help you book a taxi. You can arrange this through our reception.

    • Is there parking space available at the hotel?

      We offer our overnight guests the option to park at our hotel for €35 per car per 24 hours, subject to availability. If you are visiting us for an event, lunch, or dinner, parking costs €5 per car per hour, with a maximum of €32.50 per 24 hours. Reservations are not possible, but we are happy to explore options with you. For any questions, please feel free to contact us.

    • Is the hotel available for disabled guests?

      The hotel has several facilities making it wheelchair-friendly. In addition, we have a special family suite on the ground floor suitable for people with mobility impairment (MIVA). To ensure that we have all the necessary information and can offer you the best possible service, we recommend booking this suite through our Reservations department so that all the details can be discussed.

    • Is Grand Hotel Karel V accessible by public transport?

      The train station is within walking distance from our hotel. To plan your journey by public transport, we recommend using the NS website or 9292. These websites provide useful information and tools to plan your journey efficiently.

    • ARRIVAL

    • What is the check-in policy?

      The regular check-in time for our rooms is at 15:00. If you wish to check in earlier, an early check-in is possible based on availability and at an additional cost. Please enquire about the possibilities at our reception!

    • Can I check in earlier?

      It is possible to check-in earlier with us based on availability and at an additional cost. However, if you wish to check in before 10:00 am, we recommend booking an extra night in advance (pre-arrival night) to ensure guaranteed check-in.

    • Can I leave my luggage in advance?

      If the room is not yet ready for check-in, you can leave your luggage with us and park your car. We will then arrange for luggage to be placed in your room later when it is ready for use.

    • DEPARTURE

    • What is your check-out policy?

      The standard check-out time is 11:00 AM. A late check-out may be requested but cannot be guaranteed and is subject to availability.

      A surcharge of €50 will be applied for check-outs between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and €75 for check-outs until 5:00 PM. After 6:00 PM, a full night's rate will be charged at the best available rate for that day.

    • Is it possible to leave earlier?

      It is possible to break your stay early free of charge for any reservation booked with a flexible rate. Unfortunately, we cannot change reservations with prepaid rates.

    • Is a late check-out possible?

      It is possible to request a late check-out, however this is subject to availability and therefore cannot be guaranteed. We recommend that you ask at our reception. We charge 50 euros for a late check-out until 2 p.m. and 75 euros until 5 p.m. After 18:00 we charge a full night.

    • Can I book an extra night?

      Based on availability, it is possible to extend your stay at our hotel with an extra night. You can inquire at our reception about the possibilities at that time.

    • Can I eat in Restaurant Karel 5 during my stay?

      We look forward to welcoming you in Restaurant Karel 5 during your stay. However, we recommend that you make a reservation in advance so that you are assured of a place in our restaurant for a delicious dinner.

    • Can I eat in the Brasserie during my stay?

      You are very welcome to enjoy breakfast, lunch, drinks or dinner at Brasserie Goeie Louisa. Because our brasserie is very popular, we advise you to book in advance so that you can be sure that you can join us !

    • When is the wellness open and what facilities are there?

      The wellness and fitness are both open from 06:00 to 23:00. At our fitness you can use different devices and yoga mats. There is also a refrigerator with still and sparkling water.

    • Is the garden publicly accessible, and within what times?

      You are also very welcome to visit our garden without a hotel stay. Our gate is open to the public between 06:00 and 23:00.

      Within our hotel there are 13 meeting rooms that are available for organizing drinks, meetings or other gatherings. If desired, we are happy to prepare a tailor-made offer, fully tailored to your needs. For this we would like to ask you to contact events@karelv.nl .

    • Are dry cleaning services provided?

      It is possible to use an external dry cleaning service to have your clothes cleaned. There is a service charge of 30 euros on top of the cost per item of clothing. A dry cleaning list with additional information is available at our reception.

    • Do you offer room service?

      Grand Hotel Karel V offers 24-hour room service. Check the menu in your hotel room to see the available options.

    • OTHER QUESTIONS

    • Am I allowed to film with a drone on the premises?

      No, drone filming is not permitted on our premises. This policy is in place to protect the privacy and safety of both our guests and staff. Thank you for your understanding.
